Spider Vein Removal

Spider Vein Removal: We often have patients coming after treatments somewhere else. They frequently ask why their spider veins do not go away or tend to come back. Spider veins may be the expression of other conditions that may not have been addressed. I often tell my patients to think of spider veins as a twig and small branches of a tree. Patients with vein disease may trim the twigs as many times as they want, but if the tree is still there, inevitably it will grow more twigs. Whether is for cosmetic or medical purposes, it is best to be evaluated by our vascular specialists to determine the best approach to care.

Assuming all other vein problems and medical conditions have been ruled out, we have several medical procedures available for the removal or reduction of spider veins. The choice of treatment depends on factors such as the size of the veins, the severity of the condition, and the individual’s overall health. Here are some common methods for spider vein removal:

Sclerotherapy:

Procedure: In sclerotherapy, a solution is injected directly into the spider veins, causing them to collapse and fade over time.

Applicability: Sclerotherapy is commonly used for small to medium-sized spider veins. Assuming no other conditions associated with your spider veins, this is the treatment of choice for spider veins.

Number of Sessions: Multiple sessions may be required for optimal results.

Recovery Time: Minimal downtime, but compression stockings may be recommended.

Laser Therapy (Laser Vein Treatment):

Procedure: Laser therapy uses focused laser energy to target and destroy spider veins.

Applicability: Laser therapy is effective for smaller veins and those close to the skin’s surface. It works best in facial spider veins because the skin in your face is thinner than other parts of your body, allowing the laser to go through it and have greater success treating your spider veins.

Number of Sessions: The number of sessions depends on the size and number of spider veins.

Recovery Time: Minimal downtime, but sun protection is advised.

It’s crucial to consult our vascular specialists, to determine the most appropriate treatment based on your specific condition. They can assess the severity of your spider veins, discuss potential risks and benefits, and provide personalized recommendations for removal or reduction.
